Inner Worlds, Outer Worlds — An Incredible Video Journey Into Understanding

mandelbrot

A few days ago I stumbled upon these remarkable videos.  I’m sharing them with you because I’ve found them to be the most rational, intelligent and unspeakably beautiful journey into understanding what it is we are seeking to understand; marrying ancient spiritual philosophies with mathematics and science.  Here is the synopsis from Awaken the World who began publishing these films on April 17, 2012.  More are to come.

There is one vibratory source that connects all things. It has been called Akasha, the primordial OM, the quantum field, the super-string matrix, the music of the spheres, and a thousand other names throughout history. This field is at the root of all true scientific and spiritual investigation. It is what saints, sages, Buddhas and mystics have found by looking within, and it is what the greatest scientists have discovered at the farthest reaches of the universe. “Inner Worlds, Outer Worlds” is series of films to be released in 2012 available at http://www.awakentheworld.com. To awaken oneself, one must awaken the entire world.

I have embedded all 4 films here for your convenience.  If you subscribe to their Youtube channel, you can be notified of future releases when they’re published.  Grab a cup of tea, settle in, and let’s begin…

The Discovery of Immortality in a Jellyfish

“Everything goes, everything comes back; eternally rolls the wheel of being. Everything dies, everything blossoms again. . . .”  Fredrich Nietzche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

“After more than 4,000 years — almost since the dawn of recorded time, when Utnapishtim told Gilgamesh that the secret to immortality lay in a coral found on the ocean floor — man finally discovered eternal life in 1988. He found it, in fact, on the ocean floor,” write Nathaniel Rich of The New York Times.  One tiny, unassuming jellyfish has earned the name immortal.  It seems this being literally reverses its aging process and can revert back to its infant state, never dying.  It literally begins its life anew.

Jeff Lieberman on Science and Spirituality

I really enjoyed this video.  Jeff delivers an impressive no-nonsense explanation for spiritual enlightenment and who we are from a more intellectual and scientific approach.

Per TEDxCambridge:

Jeff Lieberman, an MIT-trained artist, scientist and engineer, makes a scientific argument for mystical experience. He asks us to challenge our perception of what we are, our relationship to the universe, and our relationship to one another. Our minds are “thought-generating machines.” What we would happen if we could turn off the machine? If we could transcend our individual experience of the world?

How Meditation Reshapes Our Brains: Video

Neuroscientist Sara Lazar’s amazing brain scans show meditation can actually change the size of key regions of our brain, improving our memory and making us more empathetic, compassionate, and resilient under stress.

I found Sara hard to follow because she speaks very fast, however her data speaks volumes.

The Earth as You’ve Never Seen it Before

This video is unspeakably beautiful.  Time lapse images of the fragile shell of our atmosphere, the aurora, and a phenomena called “air glow” are presented in a way we haven’t seen before.  It’s breath-taking.

To quote Alex Rivest, the creator of this video:

“A good photograph is one that sparks a question.  In looking at the pictures taken from the International Space Station of the earth at night, I find my attention drawn to that thin line separating earth from space: Our atmosphere.”

Alex has also created a blog spot, Earth, Night Glow, Aurora and Atmosphere, that contains a respectable amount of information regarding the images in the video.

After viewing this video, I was left not only with a sense of profound awe but also a conflicting feeling of how fragile our existence is and how amazing it is that this thin shell has maintained life on this planet for all these eons.

Enjoy a trip around our world with new eyes.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The Dawning of a New Understanding: The Higgs Boson “God” Particle

By the time you read this, I’m sure you’ve already heard what is becoming the biggest news to come out of the scientific community in our history.  Scientists have identified the Higgs Boson particle, or what is being called “the God particle”.  The ramifications are echoing throughout both the scientific and the spiritual communities.

What is the Higgs Boson particle?

I’m not a scientist or a physicist so my understanding of this is crudely elementary at best but I’ll try to explain it as simply as I understand it and trust you to research more deeply if you need to.  Physicists have held a near perfect theory of how the Universe works called “The Standard Model”.  This model explains all of the particles that make up atoms and molecules and all the matter we see, along with more exotic particles.  Unfortunately this nearly perfect model has had one gaping hole.  The model explains mass, the physical Universe and all it contains, as it exists but it doesn’t explain how it became mass to begin with.

Peter  Higgs first theorized that a field must exist through which particles like protons, neutrons and quarks gain mass by interacting with an invisible electromagnetic field who’s existence predates the universe; “the Higgs field.”  Some of the particles cut through the Higgs field without picking up mass, while others get bogged down (similar to dropping beads through syrup), accumulating mass.  His theory states that if true, this “invisible” field should have an associated particle called the Higgs boson; a particle that supervises interactions with other particles and the electromagnetic “Higgs” field- exchanging virtual Higgs particles with it.

Why is the Higgs Boson particle so important?

In short and to be blunt, the Higgs Boson is the reason we exist.  If it didn’t exist, neither would the physical Universe.  There would be nothing but particles endlessly zipping around.  Nothing else could or would form.

Why did it take so long to identify the Higgs Boson particle?

Physicists at CERN have been diligently working to identify this particle for years.  The reason its existence has been so elusive is because it decays into more stable particles almost instantly.  In order to produce the particle, scientists have had to recreate conditions mimicking “the big bang” in the Hadron collider.  The result of the collision exists for only a septillionth of a second.  Trillions of such collisions produced massive amounts of data that had be sorted through.  It was a tedious process.

What does this mean for the future?

It means science has opened the door to understanding creation.  They can only speculate at this point how many other doors this will open for future research but the ramifications are staggering.  Only time will tell how many more discoveries are waiting to be made.

We’re also nearing the point where the scientific world melds with the spiritual world.  I think we’re on the eve of learning that both are just different ways of perceiving the same thing.  One is empirically measured and proven intellectual theories led by great thinkers, the other intuited by the heart via still minds taught and fostered by the great masters.  Both are reaching the same conclusions.  This means a broader acceptance by humankind and a deeper understanding of who and what we really are and where we came from.  Old myths that no longer serve mankind will lose their hold in a world they no longer serve.  Paradigms will be shattered and put back together anew.  And the most important part of all of this is all of humanity is watching this unfold together.  We’re on the brink of moving together as one into this new era.

Perhaps the Mayans, and many other culture’s prophecies, were onto something with their projection of an ending coming to pass in 2012.  Perhaps instead of the destruction of civilization it meant the destruction of old and deeply set ways of thinking and the beginning of a new age for a kinder and more intelligent mankind.  Many in the spiritual community have been pointing towards a major shift in consciousness coming and I can think of no greater precursor than the marriage of science and spirituality to usher that in on a physical level.

These are exciting times.  Change is always bumpy but I think the world is ready for it.  In this sense, the Higgs Boson discovery very well may be the “God” particle who is finally smiling down upon us all.

The Miracle of a Human Birth Filmed via Cinematic MRI

In 2010, doctors announced they had the ability and had recorded the first live human birth via MRI.  Recently, this video was released to the public.  Now we’re able to see the miracle of the human body in action, both mother and child, as the infant is birthed.

According to New Scientist:

The technique… takes repeated images of the same slice of the body before joining them up to create an ultra-detailed video [featured below].

By using MRI, the team was able to examine the relationship between the movement of the fetus and its position as it travels through the birth canal, which should help doctors better manage labour and delivery.

This new use of MRI is not only helpful in understanding the mechanics of labor, but also allows physicians to monitor the anatomical status of infant and mother during delivery.

What a wonder life is…

A paper describing the team’s groundbreaking use of cinematic MRI is published in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. [Spotted on New Scientist]

June 14, 2012 Near-Earth Asteroid Event

An unusually large Near-Earth Object, 2012 LZ1 has just been discovered by Rob McNaught and colleagues on 2012 June 10/11.  The asteroid is roughly the size of a city block (1,650 feet wide) and will pass within 14 lunar distances of the Earth on Thursday, June 14, 2012.

The possibility of a collision is nil, but it should pass close enough to be filmed on camera.  If you want to watch this event unfold, the Slooh Space Camera will track live along with its discoverers.

Visit the site for the countdown clock.

This is really a neat site if you like video/live images of space events.

How Much Water Exists On, In and Above Planet Earth?

Credit: Illustration by Jack Cook, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

What you’re looking at is a little blue sphere which represents all of the water in all its forms on the planet Earth by volume.  This includes ice, liquid, freshwater and saltwater.  a diameter of about 860 miles (about 1,385 kilometers) , with a volume of about 332,500,000 cubic miles (1,386,000,000 cubic kilometers).

If it seems small, you need to consider that water represents only a thin film on or under the surface of our planet.  This sphere includes all the water in the oceans, seas, ice caps, lakes and rivers as well as groundwater, atmospheric water, and even the water in you and other living organisms.

To see more information regarding this picture, go here for the original article from the USGS.

Interestingly, only 4% of the water by volume on the planet is usable to human beings and most other life forms.  It’s always in some form of motion, whether it be evaporating, condensing, flowing, freezing, thawing, being consumed or being expelled.

Another interesting fact is that the majority of freshwater is not on the surface of the planet.  It’s in the groundwater and aquifers which flow under the surface.

If you want to know more about our Earth’s water, visit this article on the USGS website.

UFO or Natural Phenomenon? New Images from the Sun Reveal Shocking Image

New images coming in from the SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) of the sun this week have boggled a few imaginations.  This new image shows what appears to be a planet-sized mysterious orb hovering above the surface of the sun, joined by an umbilical of sorts.  After a few moments it appears to jettison suddenly off into space.

That is, at least, what UFOers and purveyors of Youtube are claiming.  Not to discount those who have this passion, this time there is a scientific explanation for this newly observed phenomenon.   According to NASA scientists, this strange planetoid and tether are actually related to a little-understood but frequently observed type of solar activity called a “prominence.”  The way it is situated beneath another solar feature gives it the other-worldly appearance.

These prominences form loops that can reach thousands of miles out into space.  When one extends the way this one did, it usually means it’s about to erupt.  This is exactly what happened when the “planetoid” appears to launch into space.

What caused the strange planetoid appearance?  The filament seen extending from the surface of the sun is actually a plasma tunnel called a filament tunnel.  Because of the angle of its “spout” it appears as a spherical object.  Basically, you’re looking straight down into it.  These features aren’t uncommon.

So, if you’re like me when I first saw the video, you can put your lower jaw back into its original position and relax into a more comfortable sensation of awe and curiosity.  I can hardly wait to see what new things are revealed by the SDO next.
